Mid Year Reset: Taking care of your Health this Winter
We’re halfway through the year, and with winter in full swing (and most of us feeling like we are in South Island New Zealand rather than Brisbane), many of us are starting to feel the toll. Shorter days, colder mornings, more sniffles, and often a bit less motivation. July is the perfect time to check in with your health and give yourself the kind of care that keeps you going strong into the second half of the year.
In the busyness of life, it's easy for our health to slip to the bottom of the to-do list. Maybe you’ve been putting off that check-up, ignoring a niggling issue, or just haven’t felt quite like yourself lately. Winter makes it even harder, it’s common to feel more tired, less active, and even a little more down than usual. But that’s exactly why this is the best time to pause and reset.
A mid-year check-in with your GP doesn’t need to be a big deal. It’s a chance to have a simple conversation about how you’re feeling physically and mentally. Are you sleeping well? Feeling flat or unusually tired? Is your asthma playing up in the cold? Do you need a flu shot or COVID booster? These small conversations can prevent bigger issues down the track.
Winter also tends to bring a rise in mental health concerns. The colder, darker months can trigger low mood, anxiety, or feelings of isolation especially if you're already juggling work, family, or personal challenges. The good news is, you don’t need to go through it alone. A quick chat with your GP can open up options for support, whether that’s counselling, a mental health care plan, or even just a few strategies to feel more in control.
It’s also a great time to review things like your diet, alcohol intake, exercise habits, or routine medications. Are you where you’d like to be, or is there something small we can help you adjust?
You don’t need to be unwell to check in with your GP. Preventive care is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Think of it as a winter service for your body and mind making sure everything’s running smoothly before we head into the second half of the year.
So if you’ve been meaning to book that appointment, take this as your sign. We’re here to listen, support, and help you feel your best whatever that looks like for you right now.
